My name is DJ UNI, the only music-making unicorn on Youtube, and today I¡m going to show you how to make killer trap beats on GarageBand.
I’m gonna be showing you where to find the best trap drum kits, 808 sounds, melodic synths and most importantly.. How to build a trap beat form the ground up. So that’s enough talking for now, it’s time to dive in to this video.
Before we get started, let’s adjust the tempo, which is the speed of your song. A good starting place for a trap beat is 160 BPM. You can start it wherever you want of course, but this is just a good starting place in my opinion.
Trap Beat Foundations
The big 4 – There are four primary elements in almost every single trap beat out there. Dark Chords, a Lead melody, a bass sound (almost always an 808). I’m going to take you to each element and show you how to make a trap beat from scratch.
Dark Chords
First let’s start with dark chords. We start by creating a new track, going to the synthetizers menu, clicking on pad… and let’s start with the dream voice patch. Now what I’m going to do is play two minor chords back to back. And before we move on, I’m going to show you you can hit “Command K” on your keyboard to bring up what’s called the musical typing feature.. which allows you to play and record any musci instrument on GarageBand. So now here you can see what I’m playing on my typing keyboard.
Lead Melody
In trap music, the lead melody is commonly a bell sound.
